Use your Head to get into Waves

Your head & shoulders weigh about 20kg. Bringing your head lower, towards the nose will help you stick on waves thanks to gravity. Keep your head still & low when you start going up a wave to catch it.

Keep your Head Low & Still

A lot of intermediate surfers try really hard to catch unbroken waves and as they commit to a wave, their head bounces over their surfboard. This creates more drag between your surfboard and the water, making it harder to catch waves. In most cases, you want to keep your head still and low, unless the wave is quite steep, and you don’t need to keep your head low to catch it easily.
