    Hey Clement,

Usually, we tell our people that paddling (during surf sessions) is the best way to build endurance in your shoulders. It’s the best way to train your shoulders in the specific way that you need them to. We have experienced being out of the water for a few months and finding ourselves having to rebuild that endurance once back in the ocean. It would usually take about one week of surfing every day to find most of our endurance.

I have just been kept from surfing for about a year partly because of Covid, and only recently got back to it. About a month before getting back to the water, I started “open water swimming” about 2-3 times per week. I felt this was the best way to get me fit and gain my paddle endurance back, and it totally worked for me. On my first surf, it almost felt like I had never stopped. I was even surprised by how good that went.

Some shoulder training exercises can be done at home, but they seem to be more for people who need to build muscles, not for endurance.

    Hope this helps!
